message from the president
First and foremost, I thank you, our community investors that contributed
to the United Way this past year. It has been a challenging year with
substantial increases in requests for assistance in every aspect of
programming that our United Way supports. United Way has begun to look
diligently at the future and improving lives by mobilizing our community
to create lasting changes in Isabella County. The United Way will be
moving towards initiatives that impact our community and how we can
create permanent changes rather than just Band-Aid approaches.
The United Way is no longer just a fundraising organization; we are a
convener and a leader in creating lasting changes. It is no longer about
the annual campaign, it is about lasting results.
Over the next several years, our United Way will be focusing on three
key Impact Areas that promote Educational Preparedness, Financial
Stability, and Basic Needs & Crisis Intervention. This year, United Way
of Isabella County adopted a number of new initiatives including:
- 1-800-Volunteer.org, an online searchable database of community
volunteer opportunities.
- We have provided prescription assistance cards. These cards can save
an average of 20 percent on prescriptions that are not covered by
insurance or for those that have no prescription coverage.
- We are underwriting the Gifts in Kind International program. This
program offers products at reduced costs to nonprofit organizations. We
plan on launching this program in the early summer
.
- Finally, a three-digit phone number, United Way 211, will be created
to provide information and referral for health and human service needs.
We are partnering with other United Ways, Listening Ear, foundations,
and private donors. We hope to have this up and running in 2008.
We are moving into new territory and new directions to create and
maintain a donor experience that enhances trust, satisfaction,
commitment, and a cohesiveness that results in lasting changes for
Isabella County.
It’s been my pleasure to serve the United Way and the community this
past year and I look forward to the challenges that we face in the year
ahead.
Sincerely,

Tim Snellenberger
