Campaign
The goal for the 20089– 2010 campaign has been set at $470,000. This goal
was established to help address local needs by supporting programs of our
partner agencies. While this goal provides funding for programming, it
does not meet all the funding needed to care for our community.
This year more then ever, we need the support of companies, individuals,
and corporate givers. We have seen an increase in requests for food,
healthcare, transportation, utilities, gas, and housing.
The United Way recently conducted a community needs survey in partnership
with the Isabella County Collaborative Council. The survey was
conducted by the CARRS (Center for Applied Research and Rural Studies)
program at Central Michigan University. The findings were not surprising.
The number one need identified in this survey of over 400 residents was
assistance with healthcare. While many of us may have healthcare as an
employee benefit, many do not. We also found that while residents may have
funds to pay for housing, gas, food, etc., it is that unexpected
prescription, hospitalization, test, or other medical problem that puts
them at risk for not affording basic need expenses.
Your contribution to the United Way provides crucial funding for programs
that give people a hand up not a hand out. What Matters Is You and your
support to change lives.
Over 21 percent of the residents of Isabella County live in poverty. Many
describe that they struggle with everyday life occurrences and find it
difficult to make a living wage. Michigan is at its all time high with
unemployment and Isabella County is at 3.9 percent. Those of us that have
a job and have income for recreation, travel, and other luxuries need to
be grateful. If you have $10 a week or just $1 a week that you could give
to help others, please consider it. We have over 65 organizations that
conduct an employee campaign. If you work for such an organization,
payroll deduction is the easiest way to give.

campaign
The United Way organizes its annual fund drive beginning in September
and ending in December. The Campaign Cabinet and local campaign leaders
are diligent in their efforts to “raise the bar” every year by acquiring
funds to support the less fortunate in our community.
